Tilicho, Landslide and Thorung High Camp – Nov 6th, 2012
As we are stationed in Thorung High Camp waiting for the last day of trekking tomorrow, it has been a trekking heaven for the last three days. We left Manang early on Nov 3rd and started heading to Sri Kharka. Sri-kharka is at around 13000 ft. The trek was neither easy nor too hard. We left most of our luggage there at Sri-kharka and started heading towards Thorung Base camp. The next 2 hours of trekking is one of the most astounding and challenging trekking that I have ever done. ..

Manang – Country beyond the Mountains – Nov 2nd 2012
We reached Humde around lunch hours and also got to observe Humde Airport which is at 11,000 feet. The airport looked like it has been there for a while. There is one plane on average that comes to the airport and the only route it serves is Pokhara to Humde and back. We just took light lunch there and started our hike towards Manang. I had arrived Humde 1 hour after the rest of the troop because I got lost. Bob and Tom left early after that I left and followed few of the trekkers. Uzol and t..

The day begun with a rush to get everything packed and heading out of New Shangrila Hotel in Chame. Since it was the first day, seemed like we couldn’t get our act together of packing and getting out in time. We get to meet a lady from China who used to own a toy store in Shanghai and she left her job and came to Nepal to do a solo Trek. In Chame, she was looking for a porter to help her with the rest of the journey. Chame looks and feels very much like Colorado with Rockies, pine trees and t..

After talking to few trekkers down below, it felt that we could look at another option which is to take a jeep ride up to Chame (will give us 3 days gain) and start the hike from there. A twist we added was the trek around Tilicho Lake which would take 4 days to complete. The main driver for that twist was that the addition of road migh ruin our experience of trekking completely which I was proven wrong later after the ride. So I do have some regrets at this point in time but Uzol assures me ..

Alley Attack and ripping the Valley Hills of Kathmandu
The morning started early today. I woke up around 7 AM and headed to Thamel with Uzol who came to pick me up to get started for the mountain bike ride today. I was curious to see what kind of mountain bikes they have. I found out that they have an all black GIANT mountain bike with dish breaks and 26 speeds. After doing a quick test, the fitting on the mountain bike was great! We started riding through the alleys and it certainly was a unique experience for me, Tom and Bob. We could tell that..

Ka-ka-ka-Katmandu
Ka-ka-ka-Katmandu - 10/27/2012
Bob Segar's song katmandu caused quite a stir back in the hippie era. The freak street is still reminiscent of the glorious past kathmandu once used to portray to the western world. It was mecca for people who wanted to come here to get lost or to find themselves again. The 60s and 70s kathmandu is what was considered as the highlight for this city. I grew up during the kathmandu of the mid 80s. It didn't have the same charm as the decade earlier but it wasn't as messed up as it did a decade ..

As I head out to Kathmandu...
Finally, the day has arrived! As I wait for the plane here in Los Angeles International terminal to board for the flight to Hongkong, I remember the day when I saw Annapurna South for the first time in my life. It was 13 years ago when a group of us did a preview of the Annapurna circuit, starting a trek through Phedi and went up to Ghandruk via Landruk and back down Beni to catch a bus back to Pokhara. The first night stop was in Landruk which was a small village that served tourists wit..
